City to have fonctionnaires’ quarter

As La Presse puts it, Montreal will soon have a fonctionnaires’ quarter east of the Jacques-Cartier bridge, where Quebec is buying the Télé-Québec building and planning to move hundreds of its employees in. At the same time, the city’s going to acquire the undeveloped section of the Îlot Voyageur.

In Le Devoir Tuesday it’s pointed out that while the building – which is no architectural gem, have a look at the photo here – is costing Quebec $31 million, it will save millions in rent by moving people from more expensive offices downtown. Has anyone asked the fonctionnaires how they feel about getting moved east of the bridge?
