Justice stories: various updates

The Adele Sorella trial opened this week, and while I’m not planning to follow it in any detail, this is a grim drama.

The Supreme Court won’t hear the Crown’s appeal over Sivaloganathan Thanabalasingham, accused of killing his wife in Montreal in 2012. Thanabalasingham went on the lam, but when he was caught he benefited from the Jordan ruling over trial delays, and decamped quickly to Sri Lanka, with which Canada has no extradition treaty. I doubt he’ll be back.

In a lighter but odder vein, the Supremes have agreed to hear the case of Bela Kosoian, ticketed in Laval in 2009 for not holding a metro escalator handrail when ordered to do so by security.
