Parking fines to rise
The city is hiking parking fines after a long period when they didn’t change much. Brief figures here show a considerable jump.

I wonder if there was a jump in the fine for parking in a handicapped zone. It went from $149 to $300 about 2 years ago. Wonder what it’s up to… and if it’s finally enough to get people to stop parking in them.
And please don’t be shy, if you see someone using the handicapped spot who doesn’t have a permit, call. If they are in the car, show them that you are going to call and gesture to the sign. There are people who really need those spaces… they can’t walk far, even if you can’t see the disability.

Maybe I read the article differently but to me it sounds like the actual fines are only going up a little bit, it’s the « frais de greffe » from the provincial government that is getting jacked.
I for one am looking forward to parking on alternate sides of the street twice a week starting next month for the street sweepers that come maybe once every 2 weeks at best… but hey, there’s a budget shortfall just to keep things exactly as they are, no improvement to services or anything, it’s practically my civic duty to get parking fines.

Ian, I don’t where you live, but on my street in Rosemont it’s only once a week and they are there on time every week like clockwork.

I’m impressed. Most of Mile End is left to get pretty skanky before they run the sweepers. I call 311 every time they don’t show up, I’m not going to passively accept risking a $64 ticket for interfering with a service that doesn’t even show up most of the time it’s scheduled.

Ian, keep calling. Where I live in Villeray it’s also like clockwork. My side of the street clears, and the sweeper shows up.

St-Henri, maybe the cleaner will miss once a year. It’s also once a week, different days for each side of the week.

Wow, I guess it really is just my area. I will definitely keep on top of it!
