When I worked on environmental outreach in Verdun I often found myself chatting with seniors in their kitchen over a cup of tea. Numerous told me in the 50s and 60s (if I remember correctly) that the riverbed was used as an open dump. Then the city buried it all. I wonder if this is one of the reasons they used the excavation material to ‘expand” the riverside.
