An exhibit at the Maison de la culture Plateau Mont-Royal – it’s inside the library across the street from Mont-Royal metro – shows 52 cover illustrations for an imaginary New Yorker clone, but based on Montreal visuals, each by a different artist. I had a look in on Saturday. Some pieces are more successful in imitating the New Yorker vibe than others, a few reach for a political point a little too stridently, but it’s worth a peek if you’re going by.
Trivia: It bugged me that they successfully emulated the New Yorker logotype, but didn’t accurately replicate the font of the date and price line, using Typodermic’s Euphorigenic instead.
