The city has appointed Cree lawyer Marie-Ève Bordeleau as its first indigenous affairs commissioner.
The Plante-Dorais administration has launched a budget with a hike in property tax and water tax. The mayor says the city needs the revenue to be able to fix up neglected infrastructure. There will be more money for transit although no specific funding to study the pink line.
Of course the opposition is dogpiling on.
Thursday morning there are also pieces about how the other municipalities on the island aren’t happy, business isn’t happy, Rosepatrie is not happy, rents will rise to cover the tax bill, and so on.
The Plante administration will post its first budget Wednesday. It’s expected to address mobility, economy and housing matters; Plante has already promised to freeze the salaries of city councillors this year.
The way the temperature is bouncing around means we’ll see a bumper crop of potholes this year, although doesn’t every Montreal winter include a few weeks with bipolar conditions lurching from arctic to slushy and back again?
