There’s been a lot of inconclusive media muttering about the impending legalization of cannabis – specifically, how to squelch its usage once it becomes legal. Many landlords don’t want people smoking it in their apartments, and the city opposition proposed a law banning it in public places, which has just been voted down.
The city wants to take a third of any cannabis tax, which Philippe Couillard says it will; the city also says it may approve cannabis use at the tam-tams, kind of amusing since it’s been tolerating that anyway for years, and it wants to be able to choose which festivals will accept the open consumption of the stuff.

The snow pile outside my front door has a shiny, hard surface this morning, and everything is glittering. Many schools are closed Tuesday as ice encases the city. Flights from YUL are also doubtful, according to the radio. Whether the ice will shut down the NAFTA talks is uncertain. Details on what the talks here involve.
