Breaks ankle, woman wants to sue city

It had to happen: a woman broke her ankle on an icy sidewalk and plans to sue the city, which is already talking about rethinking its policy of cleaning up after ice storms. Some media are emphasizing the difficulties for the disabled and elderly.

Anjou mayor Luis Miranda has been rapped on the knuckles for ordering snow and ice cleared last week even though Montreal had condoned no such thing.

Update: The city wants Anjou to pay between $200,000 and $300,000 for Miranda’s “premature” call for snow clearance; he says they won’t pay. Given that the city snow czar has already admitted it was a mistake not to clear up, they don’t have a leg to stand on (both are fractured).

Update Wednesday: CTV has numbers on the fractures seen at a couple of hospitals and the defensiveness of the Plante administration on its handling of the ice problem.
