More than a hundred people have sued the city so far this winter for injuries sustained on icy sidewalks. An admission made in January that the city hadn’t acted quickly enough to send out the machinery may give plaintiffs leverage: as a general rule, the city tries hard not to pay damages for sidewalk injuries.

This year is going to be about Quebec politics, so as usual I’m going to try to keep half an eye on it from a Montreal perspective while not giving the blog over to campaign issues. In this city we stand slightly apart from Quebec while still being very much subject to the changing whims of politics at that level. It’s a line to be walked.
