Radio-Canada has a video story on the state of the new Champlain, interviewing several key managers of the site and showing views of the progress of the construction. No mention of the crane operators’ strike now in its third day, but maybe the RC feature was completed before that happened.

Andy Riga reports that the Domtar Garden is already being torn up preparatory to the construction of something the city so desperately needs, another condo tower. But, as previously mentioned, the city is promising to make a nearby lot into a park. With a map showing where these spaces are.
Update: Sunday, La Presse also covers the story with a photo of a backhoe tearing up the landscaping, and giving a quick aperçu of the plans for the area including a sketch of the “tour de verre” meant to rise on that spot.

The STM’s DG has responded to bus drivers’ complaints that schedules are unrealistic, especially on lines plagued by road construction, but his plea for more time is not very persuasive. It isn’t a new problem and it’s not as if it couldn’t have been predicted and allowed for.

Another part of the new city law on animals – which also encompasses the recently blogged items on calèche horses and dangerous dogs – is that pet stores won’t be allowed to sell animals from breeders, only ones from shelters. CBC found one pet store not thrilled with this new rule.
A couple of places where I sometimes buy cat food have birds, although I don’t know whether they sell them, or just have them around. I recently noticed a pet store bird exactly mimicking the beep from the store’s cash register.
