In the fifth year of the great experiment, food trucks are struggling. I have to admit I didn’t know that festivals are allowed to have their own food trucks which don’t have to follow the same rules as regular ones. Seems unfair.

There’s already a special weather statement on the government weather page warning us of a heat wave coming for Canada Day weekend. Starting at 30° on Friday it will crest to 34° on Sunday and Monday. CBC emphasizes how hot it will be for moving day.
A campfire ban is already in effect in a lot of places, not that this will matter much in town.

A big white tent is rising at the foot of the Jacques-Cartier, which will be home to a Cavalia show called Odysséo.
If having horses pull calèches is no longer OK, is this kind of thing OK? Nobody I know has ever been to a Cavalia show – any reader have thoughts on it?
Also, I wonder how this intersects with the empty can collection site for scavengers and the Village au Pied-du-Courant.

The city is about to roll back bylaw P-6, the notorious law spawned by the Tremblay administration in response to 2012’s season of protests.
TVA says police have not evoked P-6 since 2016 when some of its provisions were struck down by the court. This item also claims police don’t deploy plainclothes officers during protests any more either.

Someone has asked me if I know what the deal is with the guy who stands at the corner of Ste‑Catherine and Robert-Bourassa (University) in all weathers with a “Jésus Christ Éternel” sign on a pole, as shown below on Streetview in July 2016.
I’ve never spoken to him and he doesn’t seem to ask for money, hand out tracts or anything else, just stands there. Inquirer notes the guy is clean and well dressed for the climate, and has seen him commuting home by metro at the end of the business day.

I was wondering the same thing. He’s still there now, even though there is extensive road work in progress in that spot.

A surfer on the river had a mishap with his board and nearly drowned, but was saved at the last minute by a couple riding Sea-Doos.
The still picture here shows someone board sailing. The river surfers look more like this.
