Cut down Montreal city council?

Doug Ford is chopping Toronto’s city council. Martin Patriquin thinks the same should be done here but Taylor C. Noakes (he’s been busy) writes in the Gazette about why Montreal’s council should not be similarly cut.

Noakes reminds us how relatively recently this city allowed all adults to vote. It wasn’t so long ago that tenants had no vote, or that property owners had a vote with more clout (“Class A”). Noakes also points out that the forced merger of Toronto’s suburbs and the partial forced merger of Montreal’s were done on the premise the change would save money – but it hasn’t. Not everything benefits from being decided or costed on a grander scale.
