Two kids badly injured by dog
Two kids, 4 and 7, were attacked by a dog Sunday in Montreal North. According to this story, the dog was being temporarily looked after by the family, but has been seized. La Presse is mum on its breed but CTV cites police saying it was a pitbull type.
What’s disturbing in this story is that the kids were not attacked at the same time. One kid was already stitched up (16 stitches to the head!) before the dog got loose again and attacked the older child.
Radio-Canada has more details about how the dog came to be in that house, and while the URL of the story contains the word “pitbull” (generated when the story was first written) the existing text does not.
Monday morning, CBC radio was still tiptoeing around the breed of dog. I’ve been bullied here on the blog by a militant pitbull owner and I’m guessing the CBC folks may also have been browbeaten by someone like that. So let’s say it here: dog breeds are not equivalent to human “races”. Reporting that an attack was by a pitbull is not equivalent to racism, although some people speak as if it is.
