A man who was handcuffed and then dropped by police far from his home with no money on him has been paid $25,000 by the city but has received no admission it was a racially based action. He’s also had to wait for this resolution since 2012.

One of the officers involved was Agent 728.

The city has passed its new animal control bylaw, which omits any mention of specific breeds of dog. This also encompasses the impending ban on calèche horses.

CTV spoke to the owner of the “pitbull-type” dog that attacked two kids on the weekend. I have not yet seen any indication the dog has been put down as dangerous.

Wednesday morning, CBC says the dog “will be euthanized” and carefully tiptoes around: “Police describe the dog as a ‘one-and-a-half-year-old pit bull that weighs 70 pounds.’ Experts have not yet confirmed the exact breed.”

Radio-Canada says that dog was known to be aggressive. Whoever decided to keep it in an apartment alongside little kids ought to be hung out to dry.

There’s a strong editorial in Wednesday’s Le Devoir about pitbulls and society’s responsibility to make sure they’re not a danger. Jean-Robert Sansfaçon says the breed makes up only 3% of the city’s dogs but can be blamed for 37% of reported bites to people. He doesn’t mention aggressions on other dogs, but I’ve heard reports of those as well.

The city is chopping down 75 mature trees along St-Hubert. I am ironically saddened to see that TVA files this under “revitalisation”.

A man was shot by police in NDG on Tuesday evening, and he’s in hospital. The incident’s under investigation.

Update Wednesday morning: The man has died.

The STM is creating a new bus route, the 35 Griffintown. I’ve walked through G-town a few times in recent months and think this is a good idea – it hasn’t been so easy to get transit out of there once you’re in it.

Beaudry metro station will be closing October 1 to reopen only next June. The Journal calls it the deepest station in the system, which I don’t think is correct: Charlevoix is listed on this page as the deepest, and I’m pretty sure Lucien-l’Allier also beats Beaudry – it feels like you’re descending to the centre of the earth getting down to the LuLa platforms.

The Gazette has some diagrams of Beaudry station and notes that it won’t be getting elevators, for technical reasons.

Anyone know what they’re doing to the Bonaventure? I’m by no means opposed to all brutalism but I’ve always found that faceless Borg cube repellent. Doubt whether cosmetic upgrades can turn it around.
