Montreal history in the Sulpicians’ records

Le Devoir’s Caroline Montpetit writes about the record books of the Sulpicians and all the information they contain about the history and shaping of Montreal. The religious order bought the entire island of Montreal in a 1663 fire sale and held it till 1840, one reason Montreal didn’t have a mayor till Jacques Viger in 1835 despite having been founded nearly two centuries earlier.
