Religious symbols: wearers will lose their jobs
The CAQ has just begun, but has announced that various classes of government-funded workers wearing religious symbols will be fired from their jobs. François Legault says he will invoke the notwithstanding clause if he has to, to get this done.
At the same time, Justin Trudeau is saying the state shouldn’t tell women what to wear, and Quebec Superior Court ruled that a lower court judge was wrong when she refused to hear Rania El-Alloul because she was wearing hijab.
We will come to look back on this CAQ rule as we do the Padlock Law, but it may take some time.
