Queen picked for St Patrick’s parade
Isn’t it time for the whole bogus St. Patrick’s Day parade queen thing to be wound down? The 196th annual parade is next month and I know I’ve kvetched about the dangerous motorized floats, but now I’m also kvetching about the selection of a queen.
Why a queen? Ireland doesn’t even have a queen, it has a president, and beauty pageants are quickly fading into the past everywhere. It’s time.

Maybe you should ask the organisers of the Carabean festival if the Montreal Caribean carnival Queen should be wound down. It’s time !

Steve Q, I wasn’t aware the Caribbean event also has a queen. However, that festival doesn’t take place for months yet, whereas the Irish one was in the news this weekend, where I happened to notice it.
In general I think appointing a queen is a silly and antiquated idea but it’s not my affair to read the riot act to festival organizers. I was just expressing an opinion, as I am wont to do.
Or are you implying something else?
