Petition: Ban cars from Old Montreal
Echoing recent thoughts of a regular participant here, a petition has been launched to ban motor vehicles from Old Montreal. The idea is to let buses and delivery vehicles in, but keep other motor vehicles out, in an area bounded by St-Antoine, Berri, McGill and the river. Item closes with a link to the petition itself.

I promise to only use my powers for good.

The story only mentions tourists, but there are tons of hotels, condos and office buildings in that zone, not to mention the Montreal courthouse. Film crews are there on a weekly basis, which brings in a lot of money but also requires lots of vehicles. I really doubt it would work.
I could see pedestrianizing much of St-Paul and some of the touristy streets around Place Jacques Cartier/Bonsecours market though. It’s a bit scary with all the cars and people on those narrow streets.

Vehicles could be restricted without being outright banned. Deliveries or by permit only, for instance. Film crews already need parking permits, this just extends that idea.
