Birds to be dislodged from old bridge

Swallows have been using the old Champlain Bridge as shelter for their nests for a long time. Experts are trying to re-create the same conditions under the ice bridge, which isn’t going to be dismantled, to persuade them to move their nests before the old bridge is taken down.

The federal infrastructure minister thinks people may be prepared to buy pieces of the old bridge as a souvenir. (But did people want souvenirs of the old Forum because of the Richard riot? Or because it was the renowned temple of a revered sports dynasty?)

La Presse’s Bruno Bisson shows how the new bridge was assembled from segments constructed offsite.
