Parc Jean-Drapeau: empty spaces
La Presse says while the city spent $10 million to add 20,000 places to that Jean-Drapeau amphitheatre for Evenko, that extra space is not being used. It now has room for 65,000 spectators, but even Osheaga only had 43,000 attendees.

Oh. So that Nature Amphitheatre on St Helen’s Island turns out to be a concrete slab ? Privatization of public parks is starting to be a big issue.

Yes, and Evenko cut off direct access to the Calder statue a few times this summer so that their “ticket booth” could be featured prominently. I can’t believe they were allowed to spill out over onto a “public” walkway leading to a prominent piece of public art.
Then again, the YUL food festival blocked a major piece of the bike path network they didn’t need – and were sponsored by Ford Motor Company.
Privatizing the commons… just before the guillotines hopefully reappear.

And the ridiculous “Mile Ex End” music festival took over the Rosemont bike path by the train tracks, starting at 9am on a Sunday! Very frustrating.
