Covid updates Wednesday
Quebec’s had the first day in a week with fewer than a thousand new cases of Covid, but Mylène Drouin announced Wednesday that cases in people over 65 have doubled over the last few weeks (see below).
New red zone rules go into force Thursday, closing gyms and putting group sports on the forbidden list, plus additional rules for students as detailed in the item.

It’s not that cases in people over 65 have doubled, it’s the share of all cases that were reported among people over 65 – the ‘over-65’ crowd went from 6% of all cases to 15%. It’s not entirely clear what is being measured but it sounds like we went from 6% of a given day’s cases being reported among those over 65 to 15% of cases reported on a different given day a few weeks later. Unstated but implied is that the total number of cases has also gone up. So we went from 6% of, say, 75 to15% of 300 (invented figures).

Thanks for the clarification.

Still very concerning, as the really low death and hospitalization rate is highly related to the low numbers of elderly cases compared to the first wave.
