Woman on mobility scooter mowed down
A driver in Rosemont on Tuesday afternoon failed to notice a woman on a mobility scooter at a corner, and mowed her down. She was wedged under his vehicle and injured but is not expected to die.

It’s perfectly normal and human to “not notice things.”
And that’s why cars should be strictly limited to professional drivers who are paid and trained “to notice things.”

Good lord, those photos! I hope the woman is OK.

As of midday Wednesday, she is not reported to have died, which may be one kind of OK.

Incidentally part of the technological change are cars that have systems in place to help avoid such things. The down side is that people, traffic lights and habits need to change as well. We are in a time of change and standardization of the rules of the road as well as normalization of certain habits take time. I remember a time in Montreal where no one stopped for a pedestrian crossing. Now, it’s starting to take hold… though the signals still aren’t standard and clear enough…. most people don’t know the difference between a yellow and a white crosswalk. Never mind the fact of who is allowed in that crosswalk. (Is a bicycle allowed if it’s walked? ridden? a skateboarder? a scooter? etc.)

Rosemont in general seems to be built around driving. Anyone else can have a challenging time getting around safely.
