A wintry awakening
As TVA says, it’s a day aux allures hivernales, or as La Presse says, l’hiver n’a pas dit son dernier mot. And I stowed my shovel on the weekend, and dried my laundry on the clothesline Monday afternoon.
Looks like we’re in for one of those weeks containing all four seasons.
Edited to add: I wonder whether the snowplows were also stowed away. My sidewalk has not been cleared, and it’s thick wet mushy snow too.

I’d like to know who was the person who put their shovel and car brush in storage before May 24….sigh. Keeping them at the ready til the danger is past is our only defence!

May 24!? I can’t recall Montreal getting more than a few stray snowflakes in May, and even that is unusual. The only shovel you should need in May is one for gardening.
(I wanted to make sure I wasn’t talking à travers mon chapeau so I did a quick search of weather history… it seems like measurable amount of May snow happens ever 15 or 20 years, but it’s rare enough that the official average for the month is still 0.0cm.)
In any case, this will all be gone by tomorrow evening, so enjoy your last chance to make a snow sculpture!

The city spokesperson on the CBC said that all the contracts for snow clearing had ended on April 15th, but all the equipment owned by the city would be in use. They’ll be focusing on hills and other limited areas, most residential streets they won’t get to before it melts.

The street was cleared here in Villeray, but not the sidewalk. It’s still pretty thick slush.
Also, I was looking back through some photos and noticed we had snow last year on April 21.

I got married on April 8th, 2000, and 30cm of snow started falling during the evening reception. My relatives from sunnier places were shocked. Even today they still talk about it!
The event even made the news at the time (the snowfall not my wedding):
