Lafleur funeral is Tuesday
Tuesday is the day of Guy Lafleur’s funeral to be held at 11 am at Mary Queen of the World downtown. Some streets will be closed off around the cathedral. Quebec media sites will be streaming the ceremony. TVA has a minute by minute link.
CBC radio and this Global piece mention a fighter jet flyby at the end of the ceremony. I hope someone warns any refugees that this is in the plans.
The Global piece says the funeral is by invitation only, but some people are lining up at the church and will watch it from outside.
Casual question: shouldn’t a Quebec national funeral not be a secular, humanist ceremony?
Update: Media have all kinds of clips of politicians, hockey players and other notables giving their eulogies.
The new bridge will be lit up bleu blanc rouge Tuesday evening.

…and don’t forget the CF-18 flyover at 12:45.

I think if we want to honour someone at their funeral, we honour the religion they (or their family) choose. That is not where I’d look for the government to be more secular.

jeather, I suppose you’re right.

The rough estimate is that it costs about $70K per hour to fly a CF-18, which is the minimum amount of time it would take to complete the flyover mission.
That’s your money.

And don’t forget the carbon emissions. The whole species needs a Darwin award.

Well, they need to fly the jets anyways – the Russians are showing the world what happens when you leave your military to rust. Might as well swing by Montreal. Although with the clouds I heard it but not sure anyone saw it.
