A high school in Repentigny was evacuated Tuesday when signs of structural failure were seen in the building. The building shown in photos doesn’t look very old but neither piece mentions the year of construction.

I live near an elementary school and the changes over the last few years have been insane: tons of new bright yellow signage, street stencils, new stops signs in the general area, speed bumps, corner bump-outs, those flaggy things to narrow an intersection. They even seem to be keeping the street paint in better condition through the entire borough.

I’ve seen articles about some schools here that turn the adjacent streets into pedestrian zones in the morning and afternoon when kids are going to/from school. This is a big thing in Belgium and France at the moment. It seems like a good solution, especially if it’s accompanied by permanent, year-round traffic calming measures.

A man was found stabbed Monday evening in Hochelaga‑Maisonneuve. According to CTV’s account, he was injured in an apartment but went to a nearby dépanneur for help. The circumstances are still unclear.

(Lucky it didn’t happen around here. Since I moved to Villeray in 2005, all four nearby deps have closed, the last one at the end of 2022.)

(But at least one of our good fruiteries has been saved.)

CF Montreal hired as the new coach of its reserve team one Sandro Grande, who’s on record as saying that the only mistake made by Richard Bain on his 2012 attack on the Parti Québécois victory party was that he had missed his target. Not surprisingly, the PQ is angry about this. Radio‑Canada has also dug up a story from 2009 of Grande grabbing a teammate by the throat when he was playing for the Impact at that time.

As noted below by GC, Grande has already been given the heave‑ho.
