Metro tunnel trespassing has been on the rise since last year. Some of the intruders have been homeless people, but there are concerns that bad actors could also create havoc.

A Griffintown restaurant was the target of gunshots early Saturday. Nobody was hurt.
It was only this year that I added a layer to the incident map to record arsons. For 2024 I might start another layer for gunshots at buildings too.
…Incidentally, not that I want to see more of them, but is it possible there was only one cycling fatality here so far this year? I’ve only got one on the map.
…Also incidentally, this morning on Google Actualités, the top three headlines are reports of these victimless gunshots fired at a closed restaurant. Gunfire is never good news, but if this is all the news from Friday night, we’re still living in a pretty peaceable place.

Were gunshots not reported on in the past? Or are there just more of them? It seems they have made the news much more frequently since the pandemic started.

That’s my impression too. Either they were not so common in the past or police find some advantage in reporting the incidents to the media.

Incidentally, that Griffintown restaurant – Pizzeria Moretti – was busted in August 2020 for breaking COVID-19 safety rules such as crowding/distancing and forcing employees to keep working even when they tested positive.
