After recent news of the almost complete collapse of intercity bus services in Quebec, it’s good to read that there’s a new bus service linking Sherbrooke to the REM.

Two Chinese social service organizations are threatening to sue the RCMP because accusations of being clandestine “police stations” for the PRC have made them lose support from government and credibility from banks.

Quebec emergency rooms now have kits to detect GHB, the date-rape drug.

CBC radio made a good point which I want to add: these are not rape kits.

Fine and good as long as you ask for it in French I guess

“Late Tuesday evening at the committee of the legislature studying Bill 15 clause-by-clause, Health and Social Services Minister Dubé surprised everyone in tabling a last-minute amendment to the bill. The committee has been examining the bill since August.

The amendment is to give Santé Québec’s board of directors, following consultation with committees which define services for the minority, the power to withdraw the right of institutions to offer services in a language other than French if the numbers no longer warrant.”

Weekend notes from La Presse, CityCrunch, Sarah’s Weekend List, TVA, CultMTL.

Free activities listed by Montréal Secret.

And this weekend’s highways to heck.

Quotes of the week from CultMTL.

The Montréal Secret list of activities reminds me of what Montreal Families magazine used to do for the anglophones. Every week they’d compile a helpful list of family-friendly activities (many of them free). I don’t think it was covered here, but the magazine had to fold in September due to the usual story of rising costs and lack of ad money.

Businesses in the Quartier Latin will be allowed to stay open 24/7 as a pilot project to see whether it would be viable for other parts of town as well.

The folks who complain about the noise from Turbo Haus are going to love this! Hopefully it’s in a way that allows Turbo Haus to avoid noise fines, and soon enough as well.

This will have no impact on noise complaints. Turbo Haus were ending shows by 11pm, bars stayed open till 3am. 24/7 bars hours won’t end noise complaints for venues in the Quartier des Spectacle.
