      Yes, let’s go back please.

Either short-staffed or the proof-reader was too hungover!

Although 2004 wasn’t so great either. We were three years into GWB’s “war on terra” and hating every minute of it. Four years out from the economic collapse of 2008. An earthquake and subsequent tsunami in the Indian ocean killed a quarter of a million people. Stephen Harper showed up in Parliament and was ascendant. On and on.

The third paragraph of the main article in The Economist today starts with “The day after Russia invaded on February 24th 2002”. It still hasn’t been fixed.

2004 was pretty rough for me and my family but my eldest daughter was born in 2005 and I wouldn’t mind seeing her as a baby again & hold her in my arms …

That said, as in most eras, I would prefer to keep moving forward than waxing nostalgic. You couldn’t pay me enough to relive my childhood though, and I’m sure my daughter feels the same way.

Incidentally, people of a certain age will be familiar with the phrase “nuclear winter.” I feel like that’s what we’ve been experiencing for the past 10 days or so.

I like the temperatures. Could use a bit of sunlight and blue sky though.

It was pretty remarkable going 2 hours north of Montreal for NYE and being able to walk through the woods without snowshoes.

I just hope this el Niño lack of cold and snow doesn’t mess up the maple syrup season.

There are predictions of a snowstorm next week.

I was thinking how much it reminded me of the times I’ve visited Vancouver in the winter.

A man and child were pulled out of a fire in Hampstead Sunday night. They are in critical condition. La Presse says the fire has been ruled accidental.

Update 5 January: The child has died.

Two people were killed in a hit‑and‑run early Monday in Ahuntsic. There has been an arrest – and an early start to the 2024 incident map.
