Denis Coderre’s plan to submit a candidacy for PLQ leadership is stalled over a delay in clarifying his tax situation.

I might have to join the PLQ just to vote for anyone else.

He may not even be accepted as a candidate by the party, at this rate.

      One like for jeather!

When I saw his name, I was afraid you were going to post about him deciding to run for mayor again.

    • Nicholas 22:32 on 2025-02-03 Permalink

Don’t worry CE, there’s still plenty of time for him to run for mayor if he loses the PLQ race, for which the convention is in June. Nomination deadline is September, and I remember talking to a Plante supporter in June 2017 who said she had no chance, so there’s both a legal and practical possibility. (I still highly doubt it.)

Do you think Ensemble would take him back, Nicholas? That party just started its search for a leader to be concluded at the end of the month. It already tried once, but nobody knocked at that door.

I mean, Ensemble is only a vassal of Coderre, the only mayoral candidate it has ever run, a party founded by and for him. [Adjective] [City] is a time-honoured party name in this province, and a new one could pop up for a new leader with no baggage. Does Ensemble have any money or love from the populace? No one even wants to lead it, even their own councillors, what is it without Coderre? I don’t think either side wants him back, but it’s existential crisis time.

Nice piece on the birds of Mount Royal as a citizen census of its species begins.

      What, no owls?

      Who?

      Haha well played 😀

I saw cormorants at Beaver Lake this year, that was a surprise. They were hanging out on the rental boat docks. There’s herons in the mornings and of course lots of ducks, mostly mallards.

There was a cormorant sleeping on a rock in the park behind my place a while ago. I walked right up to it and took a picture. I could have poked it! https://www.flickr.com/photos/blork/52305174779/in/photolist-2nG2Gbg

Years ago on a canoe trip in Northern Ontario (north of Lake Nipigon) I was surprised to see both cormorants and pelicans in great numbers. Pelicans summer as far north as the Saskatchewan / Northwest Territories border. There’s a place in SK called Pelican Narrows.

Just wanna say it’s probably not a good time to be poking wild birds.

MarcG: You mean because of bird flu concerns?

    • MarcG 12:17 on 2025-02-05 Permalink

Yeah, sorry, was going to link to something to make it obvious what I was talking about but got lazy.

Also wanted to mention the interesting fact that birds can sleep half their brains at a time, even during flight, so if Blork had gone around to the other side of that funny fellow the other eye might have been open.

The campaign has formally begun for the leadership of Projet Montréal. The party’s election takes place March 15.

Two near-fatal attacks happened overnight in town, one a shooting, the other a stabbing.

Both victims have died and been declared homicides #2 and #3.

Another update: TVA says the gunshot victim was the uncle of a gangster.
