“Best cycling city” is in doubt
A cycling blog asks whether Montreal will continue to be “North America’s best cycling city” with a mayor who’s not interested in the bicycle as a form of transport.

I am consistently surprised that “North America’s best cycling city” is not someplace warmer and flatter.

If the latest budget is anything to go by, we’re in for a long period of attrition. With Bixi’s subsidy slashed in half and less money for improving the existing cycling network, things will slowly get worse.
Incidentally there’s also less money in the budget for roadworks. And of course transit funding is still starved. In four years everyone who was apoplectic about orange cones will wonder why traffic is worse than ever and the roads are still bad.

Construction budget cuts: a perfect Goodhart’s Law application. No road construction, no complaints about road construction.

And it will be the next administration that gets blamed for all the contruction.

DeWolf, Luis Miranda is still blaming Valérie Plante for road conditions…

This is Montreal, we hold grudges. We still blame Drapeau for killing street food.
