Two men drowned in the Lachine Canal overnight.
La Presse says they did not drown, but were pulled out and taken to emergency but the TVA account was pretty definitive.

It looks like they were in the mouth of the canal in Lachine between the two spits. I wouldn’t imagine that it would be very dangerous there but obviously our gut perceptions of water aren’t very useful. 🙁

Why would anyone ever go swimming in the Lachine Canal? I know it’s a lot cleaner than it used to be but I can’t imagine it’s very pleasant.

They didn’t “go swimming” in the canal. Both articles say the first guy fell in and the second one jumped in to help him.
