A privately funded residential project glorying in the name QUAC is taking shape around the TOHU, in St‑Michel.
…Actually, I was mistaken. The whole circus area is the Quartier des arts du Cirque, or QUAC. The city wants to make the area into an artistic hub, given that previous areas affordable by artists, like Mile Ex and parts of the Sud‑Ouest, have been relentlessly gentrified. But, given the development described above, it seems gentrification is coming for St‑Michel too.
The Gazette says the REM is down this summer more often than last winter, and it isn’t always the same kind of problem causing the stoppages.
What fascinates me most is the delusional aspect. They think that supplying busses instead of making the ten billion dollar train work is success. In a normal world they would be in the dock explaining why what we paid for is not what we paid for. But in this weird world that has evolved they can sell you a hamburger made of sawdust, congratulate themselves for providing a high fibre meal, and then expect a generous gratuity.

I live very nearby and if it hadn’t been relentlessly covered in the news as a horrible disaster I would not have known.
I don’t think it’s a scandal that the city keeps watering its plants, but the Gazette is hinting that it does.
Oh that’s just stupid. Watering plants isn’t a waste of water the way hosing down a sidewalk or running a big fountain or taking 20-minute showers is.
I agree. The city puts a lot of effort into preparing plantings for the summer – it’s one of the things it does well – and it would be wasteful and foolish to let them die.
Add me to the chorus. It must be a slow day at the Gazette. What would be the point in letting all the plants die?
Ideally, they would not run those sprinklers right after a rainstorm, yes. But, I’m guessing they are probably automated and it’s not as simple as it sounds to implement that. Which, you know, a bit of journalism could have investigated…
Does anyone here know anyone who has intentionally cut down on their water usage? It sounds like the situation isn’t so dire (which the Gazette reports with some data). Anyway, I just biked by a city crew power washing the new splash pad installation in Jeanne-Mance Park.
Aside from me and CE leaving out buckets for rainwater to use on plants, I don’t.
