Despite promises made over the years, some residents of Rivière‑des‑Prairies are still coping with the stench coming off the Sanimax rendering plant.

I know I’ve said this before, but the people who bought homes there knew what they were in for (or didn’t do their due diligence). That rendering plant has existed in that location since the 70’s, along with its smell. People who bought there got houses for much less than what they would pay in other, non-smelly areas of town. They just hoped they could get rid of their smelly neighbour after the fact. Kind of like moving in next to a music venue only to complain about noise afterwards.
I of course agree that efforts should be made to improve the situation, but it’s disingenuous to complain about the smell you knew about when you bought the house.
I have family that bought a house in the area, right next to the RDP train station. I would be much more upset that the only direct link to downtown was quietly removed while no one was paying attention during COVID…

The Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec plans to take over the Resto Végo building after the restaurant closes this weekend. But this article is mistaken, because the building is not precisely “tout juste en face de l’ITHQ” as described here. The ITHQ is above Sherbrooke, athwart the metro station of the same name, while the Végo building is down below Ontario. Not far – but not en face.

You’re right. That’s quite radical, pushing the building away from the sidewalk like that.

@Kate, not sure if I’m missing something but it looks to me like they’re just removing the ugly addition in front of the original building?

Let’s hope so. I’d forgotten the frontage was newer than the rest of the building.

SMF is just getting going. The REV extension planned on Berri may be cancelled.
However, at least she has decided not to restore the old Lachine marina, although the development of that part of the riverside into a park with a swimming area is still uncertain.

So she’s going against best practice and the coroner’s recommendation and keeping one of the busiest bike paths in the city as a dinky little bidirectional path with dangerous intersections? And then she talks about wanting a project with “de la gueule” that will make Montreal shine.
Keep in mind the Berri plans have already been drawn up and tendered so it will cost the city a lot of extra money to get out of those contracts.
The most frustrating thing is that these are still just vague noises. It’s like the Old Montreal announcement the other day: We’re going to do something! We don’t know what, and we can’t tell you anything specific, or how long it will take, or how much it will cost, but it will be different than what Projet Montréal wanted, that’s for sure! Trust me bro!

I saw that bus today and was wondering about it. It stops at the entrance across from Place Riopelle. I try to avoid flying Air Canada but if I end up doing so, I would consider taking this bus as it’s a coach rather than a full city bus that’s always late and forces you to wait outside in the cold or rain with no shelter.

I wondered whether they let people board who aren’t flying that day, but plan to see someone else off.
In case anyone ever sees this: apparently not. No ticket, no ride. Say goodbye to family and friends at the bus stop.
