Following the recent story about police being mildly punished for a car chase eight years ago, here’s a new car chase story: a driver broke some rules and cops chased him along the Met into St‑Michel. Two of the three people arrested were minors and a fourth ran away. Big win for the cops, justification for a chase scene?

The SQ had a helicopter patrolling above the highways all night, so it’s possible that they’re learning and conducting these chases from the air instead of by car (I’d rather they use drone than a helicopter, but progress is progress).

Given the behaviour I’ve seen out there, I wouldn’t necessarily assume this was just breaking some rules.

A construction site in Point St-Charles which nearby residents complained was stinking the place out has been closed down now that a dangerous level of contaminants has been confirmed. Question is, why was someone trying to build on top of that without decontamination?

Aren’t they supposed to do soil tests BEFORE any construction starts? Not after, as is implied in the story?

After all, we’re supposed to fast-track projects now and not let them get caught up in red tape…

I mention the soil tests because I have personal experience. Some years ago, I was going to invest in a property with some friends (I didn’t end up moving forward on the project, but my two friends did, so they kept me abreast of the situation.). The building had a smallish house on it, but a large tract of unused land that we wanted to build additional units on. Before they could even think of building on it, they needed to get soil tests done. And this was in an area with no history of industrial activities, like the area in the story.

What happened? Were they stuck with a piece of land full of toxic junk?

The land tested was not contaminated. But they needed to perform tests before beginning construction. Very deep testing. Nothing could start before getting the test results. Then permits were a different story.

In the match Saturday evening between CF Montreal and Inter Miami, a Miami player was injured so badly that an ambulance was brought onto the field. CF Montreal was defeated 1‑0.

I was at the match and saw it in real time. The hit wasn’t especially bad, though it definitely warranted a penalty shot. Berterame seems to have landed wrong. I’ve never seen an ambulance drive directly onto the field, though.

There are always going to be people who adopt pets for reasons that aren’t well considered, and who don’t realize what they’re getting into. Outfits like the SPCA and rescue organizations try to discern who will be a responsible pet owner, and exclude people who don’t fit the profile, but there’s only so much they can do. If you have cages full of cats and people are clamouring to take a cat home, you let them take a cat home. And then if they have to move house and the new landlord won’t allow pets, you know what happens.
