Metro: usage is up, security too

The STM is adding more platform security to the metro: last year saw a 4% increase in ridership but also a spike in downtimes caused by passengers. I’ve seen more transit cops on platforms lately (more bus muscle checking passes and tickets too), and this item says the STM will be putting out a PR campaign to persuade people not to do the things that mess with metro fluidity.

Also, Le Devoir says the STM is prepared to rethink its whole bus network in view of the changes to be brought by the REM and the blue line extension. It’s impossible to imagine that if an expert came to the city now, with no idea of its current route map but with data about daily transit usage and population trends, that they would reproduce the layout we’ve inherited from the mid 20th century, which you can appreciate particularly via this comparative map made by ant6n.
