It’s a slow news day when a squirrel stealing a fry is news.
Ian
It’s got nothing on the bagel squirrel from a couple years back for cuteness. Maybe it’s got a gig delivering and just felt peckish?

A 70-meter street in NDG has been pedestrianized for the summer, and even CBC flounders trying to find some “balance” – but they do manage to find one resident to complain about the lost parking: “she now has to park so far away, it takes five minutes to walk between her car and her residence.”
Is the CBC allowed to be ironic?
DeWolf
The lady is upset because it’s *free* parking, which means she’s too cheap to pay the roughly $6 per month it costs for a vignette that would allow her to park directly in front of her house.
Nicholas
If you want “balance”, the Suburban has it in droves. People are advocating to the return of the latest Google Streetview, which shows a car parked in the crosswalk to access the park. While the Suburban and the CBC mention there are six locations for these parklets, neither story mentions them, nor does the city website, from what I could find. Tragically, the only ones doing the work to help inform people is the now-defunct Metro

Yeah, that Suburban article was something. I liked the part about traffic on Monkland being “heavily saturated during rush hours,” by which I assume he means 5 cars waiting for a light. McQueen is right that there is no playground within a 10 minute adult/20 minute kid walk of that neighbourhood, so the case for the expansion would have been stronger if some playground equipment had been installed, even temporarily. As far as I can tell the biggest users of the space at the moment are dog walkers and people who don’t want to smoke at home.
Joey
@Tim the CBC article says the playground equipment is on back order and should arrive this summer.

This is my ‘hood, and the traffic on Monkland is worsened by construction on other east-west streets that is frequently started without notice to those affected.
But this little thing only affects those who drive to the metro station.
Ian
DeWolf, a parking sticker in NDG is about 200 bucks, not 60, and does not reserve a spot in front of your house or even your block …. I mean point taken and I agree but 5 bucks a month to park right in front of your house is a big exaggeration, too.
