In Montreal East, two candidates for councillor won 81 votes each, and a recount produced the same result. On Monday, a flip of the coin will decide which will sit as councillor for the town’s District 1 for four years.

Projet Montréal plans to elect a new chief next week, Luc Rabouin having stepped down directly after his defeat. This person may be considered an interim leader until the party can organize a proper convention later.
(I wonder whether Rabouin is regretting not having hung onto his safe job in the Plateau.)
Nicholas
I still haven’t seen whether he will take his council seat or not; he was colistière, with Maeva Vilain, for the De Lorimier city council seat in the Plateau, so could stick around.
DeWolf
He won’t be taking Vilain’s seat. La Presse reported it in a bit of a roundabout way:
// Il quittera son poste « au cours des prochains jours ». S’il l’avait voulu, il aurait pu demeurer au sein du parti et siéger au conseil municipal, puisque sa colistière, Maeva Vilain, a été élue dans l’arrondissement du Plateau-Mont-Royal. //

The Le Devoir article is pretty clear: “Il a fait savoir qu’il n’occuperait pas le siège de sa colistière, Maeva Vilain, et quitterait Projet Montréal.” So not only is he not going to sit, he’s left the party.
Nicholas
Thanks. The language DeWolf quotes from La Presse is indeed not directly clear on whether the poste he’s quitting is the leadership of the party or his seat on council. Le Devoir is clear on that, I just didn’t find my way past the paywall.
Kate
I tend to forget about the paywall, because I periodically delete Le Devoir’s cookies. Sorry, Nicholas.

Le Devoir is free for all until December 8th! Just have to make an account.
Kate
At other times, I’ve found that 3 Le Devoir articles are free, then you get the paywall, but if you have an unpaid login, you get 7 free till the paywall.

Past 2 pm Sunday and it’s been a slight dusting so far. Not saying it couldn’t pick up overnight.

A great example of “every vote matters”

… one thing the article doesn’t mention, who gets to call it?
