Montreal shelters already full
Video report here from CBC on the state of homeless shelters under the early winter conditions.
The item cites the Old Brewery Mission estimating that about 1000 people are living in encampments, and they’re about 20% of the homeless population.
Also some promises from the new mayor. She wants to make assessments first.

Those are some interesting estimates as the total homeless population of Montreal is at last count 42% of the 9 307 throughout Quebec, so about 3900. Homelessness was reported by that 2024 survey as increasing 10% a year… so maybe 4300? I’m curious where OBM is getting their implied 5k from.
