It’s cold, and will be cold into the middle of next week. Usual warnings here about layers, frostbite and the particular risk to the elderly and homeless.

Pedophile priest Brian Boucher has been banned from parts of Montreal after he was spotted eyeing one of his previous victims in a public place.

Boucher has been out of prison since July 2024, on statutory release, but both items go on to outline a list of persistent problems. It sounds like the authorities know he’ll be back.

Still alive, I guess, since it’s not murder or manslaughter.

Thank you, jeather. I haven’t yet seen news of additional charges facing the suspect, but that’s bound to come. Feels bad to start the year with a feminicide, worse that it’s not the worst thing in the news.

The usual New Year items: the first ship into port and the first baby (although the Gazette shows us a photo of the mother of the second baby). These news categories must persist because there’s typically virtually no other local news at the cusp of the year.

Likewise, everyone has coverage of the story linked in the previous blog entry, about the woman allegedly pushed from a balcony. Usually a nonfatal incident wouldn’t be such a big story – if there was any other local news. (No disrespect meant to the alleged victim.)

Also, I usually do weekend events on Friday, but there’s a feeling that we’re all partied out. None of the usual sources have updates.

The big news is that it’s –20° right now. Was –23° when I woke up. This is when living on the ground floor of a hundred‑year‑old not very well insulated building really tells!
