Valérie Plante wants to make it easier for Montrealers to buy property – not, presumably, big landlords, but people wanting to own a home.

Denis Coderre is dangling more money at the boroughs. Coderre is also handwaving the fact that one of his candidates was caught up in a financial scandal between 2003 and 2006, but still works in the financial field.

Taylor C. Noakes ponders the mayoral candidates.

A site made in Montreal is meant to show the impact of climate change on any address you put in, using Google Streetview. Claims to be doing it with artificial intelligence, including the name of the site which evokes previous AI‑driven sites like this person does not exist and this cat does not exist.

Ok but if you do an address at the bottom of the escarpment and the top it still shows the same level of flooding but that would be the sud-ouest gone like that. I get it’s a trivial implementation but it’s a little silly.

Indeed. I remember being somewhere east of Papineau, where the escarpment drops off quite suddenly below Sherbrooke Street, and having almost a vision of how the city would look if the river were lapping up there. The island would be much smaller.

QMI says gangs are hanging around north-end high schools trying to sign people up. I don’t suppose it involves booths and brochures.

The Canadiens are to make a land acknowledgment before their home games. Typically, when I opened Twitter this morning, the first thing I saw was a retweet of a hate tweet in response to this announcement.

How long until the unanimous motion at the national assembly?

Projet Montréal is promising to make the city more accessible, although how they will speed up the installation of elevators in the metro when the STM is already begging for funds because of the pandemic, I don’t know.

(Question: Is the REM planned from scratch for universal accessibility?)

They claim they are, but I noticed that at the Panama train station the concept art shows that the path between the bus terminus and the train platform is uncovered which means everyone has to walk outside in the snow and rain to get to the elevator to lift you up to the train platform. Of course the concept art shows figures walking outside on a sunny, summer day, gaslighting commuters to forget about bad weather

Just checked and now they’re saying there’s going to be a marquee between the bus terminus and the station. I guess someone else pointed it out. I hope it’ll be warm enough that we don’t freeze or slip running to get the train

The REM will be universally accessible.
It involves a lot more than just elevators but if you are not disabled you would not notice the difference.
