Very interesting indeed. I must admit that a lot of my notions of the position of women in Hasid society is based on TV series and movies. It’s obviously much more nuanced and complicated. I hope she can (continue to) build bridges. I liked the analogy between the francophones and the Hasid, both surrounded by a sea of ‘others’ that want to destroy their culture.

There’s an absolute ton of francophobia in English Canada. Like really nasty, deep-rooted prejudice against francophones. You hear all sorts of stuff about French Canadians and Quebec when you’re in Ontario or Alberta.

You should hear what people in Quebec say about English people from Ontario and Alberta 😉
Oldest trick in the book, divide and conquer. Keep the poors fighting over ethnic identity and the powers-that-be can get away with all kinds of antisocial moves to line their pockets.
