Tramway? Not so fast
No sooner is a tramway proposed for the east end than it’s disclaimed by the ARTM, which says the idea reported by La Presse two days ago didn’t come from its official channels.
The mayor too was not keen on the idea as presented.
Whatever the “projet structurant de l’Est” ends up to be, it won’t be the pink line, the REM de l’Est or the mooted tram, but… something else. Eventually.

There has been so many transit studies in Montreal, it’s disheartening to see how much time has been wasted. First heard about the Viabus thing from my dad when CDPQ and the City presented the REM de l’Est. He said that there was a very vocal minority against the project at the time and the project was shelved, and that he was expecting to see the same thing for the REM de l’Est. I told him that there was no way Valérie Plante, Queen of transit and active mobility, would abandon 30km of metro at a 6th the cost of the old rubber-tyre STM metro, and that we were on the verge of a transit revolution with the Quebec Tramway and the first REM. Oh how I was wrong haha.
