Man shot dead in Petite-Patrie

A man was shot dead shortly after midnight outside a pizzeria on Bellechasse, which – going by the location – would have to be Elio’s. The man is identified as Jean Brandon Célestin, brother of noted caïd Jean-Philippe Célestin. He had just exited from a family gathering at the restaurant.

TVA asks whether this killing is a sign of heightened tension and violence in the gang world. Later, they also had a few notes on the murdered man.

(La Presse makes this the sixth homicide of the year, which suggests that the man found dead early this month downtown was judged not a homicide. I didn’t see this resolved anywhere else.)

Later, Daniel Renaud says police likely suspect that Célestin was killed because he was mistaken for his brother.
