CityNews profiles Abdul Raziq Khan, whose Mama Khan restaurant gives out free meals near Parc metro on Fridays.

I saw some people carrying a huge steaming pot of soup down the street a few weeks ago, it was one of those surreal moments where your brain isn’t able to process how strange it is in the moment, then later on saw a table set up at Galt and Wellington giving out free food. I looked it up online and it’s a group called Food Against Fascism and they do it every Saturday. There’s also a Food Not Bombs group in NDG doing a similar thing on Saturdays at Place Charles-Este.

Regular reader SMD may know the answer to this question: is the Mama Khan project the same one that Mahmood Baig posts about at Parc metro, or is he working separately?

Yes, that would be him! Five years now, every Friday rain or shine. See this profile from 2022: https://ici.radio-canada.ca/mordu/4721/aide-alimentaire-parc-extension-mahmood-baig.

Several thousand people gathered at the foot of Mount Royal on Sunday afternoon to protest the claim being made on Canada by Donald Trump.

TVA’s headline is odd: Montréal n’échappe pas aux manifestations contre Trump – as if the urge to protest were a disease.

Five people have been arrested after a major fire overnight in a mechanic’s garage in eastern Hochelaga.

I admit I found it odd that CBC was so coy about the business that they wouldn’t even say what kind of business it was.
