Old bridge pilings to be taken down
A new stage has been reached in the dismantling of the old Champlain, as underwater pilings and footings begin to be demolished and removed. The complete bridge demolition will take till 2024 and cost $400 million.
I wonder what it’s like when you finish a job like this. When you put up a new bridge or building and it’s all in place, you can raise a glass to the new thing. It must be a little odd to raise a glass to having removed an old one.

It’s like looking at an empty room after having taken a load of crap to the junkyard. I think it’s its own kind of satisfaction.

It’s actually really cool to see the dismantling. Every day a section is removed and demolished. They’re about a third of the way to the super structure the last time I saw.
