Thefts at Plateau stores
Two storefronts in the Plateau have experienced thefts in which the perpetrator distracted the cashier on duty, then simply made off with the register.
CTV may autoplay a loud commercial on that link. Feels like we went from a lot of autoplay in the earlier days of media websites, to an understanding that nobody wanted autoplay, and now it’s creeping back in, in a desperate grab for attention.

Granted that nobody thinks today’s the day that someone’s going to steal the cash register, but $1650 (even $750) seems like a lot of money to keep in the register, especially since the vast majority of transactions are unlikely to be cash. I haven’t worked in retail in a quarter-century – back then (the vast majority of transactions were cash), we were constantly taking cash out of the register and putting it in a safe in an office, behind a locked door. I think the daily float was about $200, and we would make deposits most days. Occasionally someone would walk in when we were busy and swipe the tip jar – real lowlife shit – but I don’t remember any other robberies.

As far as CTV autoplay is concerned, I often have the sam evideo loading twice (Mac, Chrome) playing slightly out of synch so there’s a weird echo effect.
And on the subject of echo, my experience of retail was much the same as Joey’s except we just took an envelope to the boss’s desk in another room where we did the count at the end of shift. I’m surprised there’s that much cash in a till these days anyhow, given debit.
