New secularity law puts things at risk
The new law meant to “strengthen secularity” puts things at risk: guignolées, the traditional charity collections, as well as funeral processions. The vagueness in the wording of the law could be a trap, leaving certain things ambiguous.

Ambiguity is useful because it allows certain things (Santa Claus Parade and train, Mardi Gras, various other celebrations based on Christianity) to be “cultural” and allowed, while anything that isn’t Christian is religious.

There’s a good chance that section gets struck down for being ultra vires (outside the jurisdiction of) the province: its pith and substance is arguably criminal law, banning actions in an open, public space. Yes you have to pay to rent a space, but for non-exclusive public space like a park that doesn’t rise to the level of a permit (amplification, large group), that sounds much more like criminal law. But I’m sure we’ll get another lawsuit on this. But this attack to the bill is not protected by the notwithstanding clause.
