Landlords hiking Park Ex rents as high as 20%
Landlords are hiking rents in Park Extension as much as 20%, citing repairs made necessary by sudden city demands over safety and security.
Would they not have had the buildings inspected before buying them? They must have been aware that repairs and renovations would be needed and could not readily be gouged out of the tenants.

Doesn’t matter, the rules are that any reno – even necesssary upkeep – counts toward rent increases. If anything, it means the previosu landlord was getting away with rent increases for nothing.
My landlord on the other hand won’t allow us to even do minor repairs, and you had best believe that every single repair he does counts toward our annual rent increase. Even when he repaints the fence he charges it to the building.
