Let’s stop piling misery on misery

La Presse editorialist Philippe Mercure writes about the police practice of fining the destitute, which has been shown to be on the rise despite François Legault’s trust in the good sense of the police (good luck) and vows made by city hall to curtail the practice. It sounds like something out of Dickens or Victor Hugo, a cruel idea that should have been shut down decades ago but, in fact, continues to spread.

Update: QMI says the researchers discovered that more than 50,000 tickets were given out to homeless people between 2012 and 2019.
