Lamborghini owner sought
Someone abandoned a Lamborghini after a crash in the West Island overnight. My question would be: where did the driver go on Sources Road at 1:30 in the morning?

There is no good reason to be in Dollard-des-Ormeaux after Pastamore closes.

Really? I wouldn’t trust a strip mall restaurant to do anything but microwave a frozen slab of lasagna.
dhomas 20:52 on 2021-10-16 Permalink
Maybe they were leaving the strip club nearby? I would guess they were drunk and didn’t want to get busted.

I meant more like: after they crashed the car, where could they go? Did they take the bus?
Someone on Twitter suggested maybe it was road racing, and the driver of the Lamborghini rode off with his opponent. Imagine though, abandoning a car like that.

You wouldn’t think it, but I kid you not.
Pastamore used to be in Marche de l’Ouest, which I worked right behind for a couple of years ~2000. I got to be very familiar with their menu. Every single thing that comes out of that kitchen is drool-inducingly delicious. Try the veal cannelloni. If they don’t make you weak in the knees I will personally give you your money back.
Apart from Pastamore, yes, the West Island is generally horrible. Gigi’s in Pointe-Claire village serves up a mean, mean pizza though. And Delibee by the Valois train station is thoroughly worth a visit if you’re into the smoked meat / Jewish deli thing.
FYI: The trains on the Vaudreuil / Dorion line are basically free these days. The inspectors do come aboard here and there but they’re only checking for mask compliance. I can’t remember the last time I was challenged to produce a valid ticket. One small upside to the whole pandemic fiasco. I’ve got half a mind to tour the entire exo network on the cheap before this shit-storm’s over.

Road racing could be an explanation. Still, the cops will find out who the car belongs to from the license plate. I suppose it might have been a stolen car. If the owner was actually driving it, he could always declare it stolen the next morning, to avoid the law.
Blork 00:53 on 2021-10-17 Permalink
I assume either the car was stolen, or (more likely) the owner will now claim it was stolen. (Bearing in mind the damage is extensive; most likely a write-off.)
Blork 00:57 on 2021-10-17 Permalink
…and also bear in mind that the starting price for that model Lambo is almost $500,000 CDN. Think insurance will pony up? I’m sure the runaway owner hopes so.
Blork 01:01 on 2021-10-17 Permalink
Actually, the most likely scenario is that the offspring of the owner “borrowed” it (maybe Daddy’s out of town?) and will now claim to Daddy and the cops that it was stolen.
JaneyB 08:26 on 2021-10-17 Permalink
My guess is that the cops are already familiar with this person. Antics like that don’t happen only once and budgets like that are a small community. Yes, probably the offspring.
@Max – thanks for the tips. Not often in the WI but good to know.

Max, the problem with the exo train network is that the schedules are so skimpy. In slow work times in the past I’ve thought of doing some exploring using them, but they’re totally tuned to serving the 9 to 5, so you might be able to go somewhere, but then not be able to get back when you want to, even till the next morning, and I don’t fancy sleeping in a hedge.

If our suburban transit was more developed, idealistic youth wouldn’t have to tear around the city in Toxic Masculinity tanks at high speed.
I blame the system.

Max, Delibees is Italian and Catholic. Just like his brother’s place, Smoke Meat Pete, and his late father’s The Main.
Philip is the only one who still makes his own smoked meat.

I feel the need to big-up exo’s Saint-Jérôme line here.
Whilst its frequency is laughable compared to Europe, it does run consistently during the day – and also at the weekends, I think – with great Metro connections at Parc and de La Concorde (even though it doesn’t go all the way downtown outside of rush hour, there’s no question it’s faster to transfer to the Metro anyway).
I’ve done a couple of hiking day trips using this line. It parallels the P’tit Train du Nord (https://ptittraindunord.com) for the northern part of the route if you want to hop off and walk part of the trail. And from Saint-Jérôme you can follow the trail north in about an hour to the lovely Rivière-du-Nord park, or much further if you bring a bicycle!
I’m on a bit of a personal mission at the moment to figure out what day trips are possible from Montreal using the various rail networks, but this one is always a reliable option for some far away greenery and fresh air.
There’s also a good thread on Twitter by Marco Chitti theorising about creating a regional rail network in Southern Quebec to fill the obvious gap between commuter rail and intercity: https://twitter.com/ChittiMarco/status/1449092194393116683
I’d argue the Saint-Jérôme line could already classified as regional service, as the terminus is in a different region and the frequency while still very poor actually makes a longer distance return trip possible in a day.

Daniel D, I love this, and wish I had known some of it earlier in the season.

Good now I can finally pick up some cheap parts for my lambo at the next police auction. I recommend the bus heading north from Radisson metro for a weekend trip – bring a tent.

Kate, you need to re-explore the WI, cut through the chains and you will find plenty. Some of the best restaurants are in strip malls in the West Island, i.e. Bombay Choupati (IMO the best India in town,it puts the Parc-Ex spots to shame), Aryana (for amazing Afghani), Tacos Don Rigo (best tacos on the island), Abou Hana. Don’t pre-judge the West Island, their food choices have gotten much much better, lots of decent dumpling, Korean and Vietnamese spots have recently popped up too. As for Delibees, yes that is the best smoked meat in town.
In terms of the crash, that car was most likely rented.
You could have all the transit in the world, zig zagging through the island 24/7, those guys were racing, they don’t give two poops for a bus line. There’s a whole racing culture out there and it has nothing to do with the suburbs. My buddy witnessed these guys actually racing the night this happened.

YUL514, thank you for the info. I am not likely to get to the West Island anytime soon, since I live in Villeray and don’t drive. I have eaten at Bombay Choupati (with a friend who does drive), but not recently. It was good, you’re right about that, but not quite worth a 90‑minute transit trip each way.
